Assisting those in need during the holiday of Passover is a great Jewish tradition that dates back thousands of years. Distributing food packages for Passover is a true example of unity, care, and mutual support—creating a shared sense of responsibility among Jews for one another.
For the past 35 years, this noble work has been carried out by Svetlana Khanimova-Levitin, president of the organization “World of Women Immigrants,” together with her dedicated team. They load their cars with food supplies received from the QJCC and personally deliver them to individuals and families they know and continuously support!
Thank you, Mr. Queens Borough President!
“We deliver food packages to families in need across various neighborhoods in Queens, including Briarwood, Jamaica Estates, Fresh Meadows, Flushing, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Kew Gardens, and others,” Svetlana Khanimova-Levitin told a correspondent for The Bukharian Times.

“Our mission is to bring warmth, care, and support into every home, especially during these meaningful holiday days. In this regard, I would like to sincerely thank QJCC President Barry Grodenchik, Executive Director Rabbi Meyer Waxman, David Aronov, Sofa Shamalova, and all the dedicated volunteers for their hard work, compassion, and generosity,” continued Khanimova-Levitin.
On this day, Svetlana happened to meet Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. Seeing her struggling to lift a large box of matzah, he stepped out of his car to help.
“To be honest, I didn’t recognize him at first. But when I realized he was the Queens Borough President, I was deeply touched by his kindness—and now by his participation in this mitzvah for our community. He personally helped me carry boxes of matzah and load them into the car. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank him. Your kindness, modesty, and support are sincerely appreciated, Mr. Donovan Richards. Thank you!”
Notably, young politician David Aronov also joined the effort, delivering packages to those in need.
On behalf of the members of our organization, I would like to wish everyone a happy Passover!
Thank you, Mr. Queens Borough President!
Chag Pesach Kasher v’Sameach!
May this bright holiday bring peace, security, joy, and blessings to the Jewish people and Jews around the world.
