GLATT GOLD: A New Era for Lagman Lounge

KASHRUT

On May 11 of this year, an event took place that marked a significant and serious milestone for the Forest Hills restaurant Lagman Lounge.

A group of authoritative and respected rabbis—Zalman Zvulunov, Yitzhak Wolowik, and Rakhmin Dadabaev, led by Chief Rabbi Baruch Babaev—visited the small and cozy restaurant at 101-05 Queens Blvd and enjoyed lunch there. This visit was prompted by the fact that the restaurant’s partners, Avner Fattakhov and Peter Borukhov, had just a few days earlier received their long-awaited certificate granting them the new status of «Glatt Kosher.»

From the perspective of kashrut, this designation is incredibly important and even emotional. It opens up numerous opportunities for the restaurant to stand alongside those who adhere to the strictest religious requirements and rules.

The Chief Rabbi delivered a special address, not only to members of our community but to all lovers and connoisseurs of Glatt Kosher food. To highlight this landmark achievement, his speech was broadcast live on Facebook. As always, Rabbi Baruch Babaev was persuasive, and his arguments were compelling and indisputable.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE EVENT:

Growing Trends: The Rabbi noted with deep satisfaction that the number of «Glatt Kosher» restaurants is showing a steady upward trend.

Immediate Support: Moments after the announcement, 75 symbols of approval and agreement flashed across phone screens.

Honoring the Mashgiach: The restaurant’s Mashgiach (kosher supervisor) was invited to join the communal meal as a sign of respect. He proved to be an impressive Iranian Jew, who is not only an expert in kashrut laws but also a scholar of the poetry of Saadi Shirazi.

COMMUNITY AND MEDIA SUPPORT

Editor-in-Chief Rafael Nektalov expressed his hope and confidence in the prosperity of this «delicious spot» for the benefit of all gourmets. He also emphasized the vital role of the newspaper in promoting the transition to Glatt Kosher service in accordance with the high standards of VHQ.

The meeting between the clergy, newspaper leadership, and the owners of «Lagman Lounge» took place in a friendly and respectful atmosphere, capturing the interest of enthusiasts of both Jewish and Eastern cuisine.
