President of the Bukharian Jewish Congress, Chagit Sofiev-Leviev, Hosts First-Ever Community Event Honoring Single Mothers at Her Home

On a mid-July evening, Bukharian Jewish Congress President Chagit Sofiev-Leviev welcomed nearly 60 single mothers to a special event honoring the extraordinary women raising their families on their own.
It was the first event of its kind in the Bukharian Jewish community.
Hosted at her home, the evening was built around appreciation and encouragement. Guests enjoyed an elegant dairy dinner—personally prepared by Sofiev-Leviev—heard from distinguished speakers, and, most importantly, had the chance to connect with one another and build lasting friendships.
The program featured presentations by Rebbetzin Amit Yaghoubi, Sara Joseph, and Rivky Birkman, who offered words of wisdom, encouragement, and practical guidance. Guests then moved into roundtable discussions to share their experiences and begin building a support network they could carry forward.
Under Sofiev-Leviev’s leadership, the Bukharian Jewish Congress has broadened its focus to empowering women, strengthening families, and ensuring every member of the community feels seen, valued, and supported. This event reflects that vision and marks the beginning of what the organization hopes will become an ongoing series of programs.
«For one evening, we wanted these remarkable women to simply be cared for,» Sofiev-Leviev told The Bukharian Times. «More than anything, I hoped they would leave knowing they are not alone—that they have a community, and one another, to lean on.»
«The strength of a community is measured by how we care for one another,» she added. «This evening was about recognizing the resilience of these mothers and reminding them how much they matter to us. We hope this is just the beginning.»
The Bukharian Jewish Congress extends its gratitude to the evening’s speakers and to the volunteers and supporters who made it possible. Above all, it honors the single mothers whose strength and devotion to their children inspire the entire community every day.
The event was open to all single mothers in the community and was publicly announced through the Bukharian Jewish Congress’s official Instagram page, allowing any eligible woman who wished to participate to register and attend.
