Passing the Gavel: MEET THE NEW S-BLA BOARD

The Bukharian Law Association (BLA) has announced its new Student Division (S-BLA) Board, which will serve a two-year term leading the organization’s growing network of Bukharian law students.

Emily Babaev, a rising third-year student at Hofstra Law, has been appointed president after previously serving as the division’s event coordinator. Jonathan Ustaev, also a rising third-year student at Hofstra Law, will serve as vice president.

«The new installment of the S-BLA Board installs a new spirit and future in the S-BLA,» said Leo Jacobs, founder and president of the Bukharian Law Association.

The executive board also includes Bavel Kagzanov as treasurer and Avital Isakov as secretary. Serving on the student board are Eric Kalandarov and Simona Roza Mavashev in public relations, Jonathan Leviyev as board member, and Emma Avner as event coordinator.

Babaev said she hopes to build on the Student Division’s momentum by creating opportunities for networking, professional development, mentorship and lasting friendships among Bukharian law students.

«My goal this year is to create opportunities for networking, professional growth, mentorship, and lasting friendships,» she said. «Whether you’re a 1L, 2L, or 3L, I hope you’ll join us at our events, get involved, and help us make this our best year yet.»

Ustaev said he hopes to showcase the strengths of the Bukharian community while celebrating its culture through the organization’s programming.

«I’m looking forward to showing the world what the Bukharian community has to offer and to celebrating our culture and growth together,» he said.

The Student Division, launched in 2024, connects Bukharian law students with attorneys and mentors while organizing networking events and professional development opportunities for aspiring legal professionals.
