Bonding Over Bar Mitzvahs: A Joyful and Uplifting Father–Son Evening

On Monday, February 9th, 2026, the JIQ Boys’ Middle School hosted a memorable and meaningful Father–Son Dinner, bringing together 7th and 8th grade students, their fathers, and Rebbeim for an evening filled with inspiration, connection, and joy.

The theme of the night—»Bar Mitzvah and Beyond”—served as a powerful backdrop for the event, reminding all in attendance of the lifelong journey of mitzvot and spiritual growth that begins with this milestone.

A Night of Togetherness and Torah

The evening began with a heartfelt Arvit prayer, uniting generations in shared tefillah and setting the tone for what was to be a spiritually enriching night. Following davening, everyone made their way to the beautifully set tables, where a delicious spread of Chinese cuisine awaited. The tables were adorned with themed decorations, including mini tefillin-shaped candy boxes, adding a fun and symbolic touch to the atmosphere.

The highlight of the evening came with the arrival of Rabbi Rami Sassoon, who delivered a captivating presentation on the halachot, inner workings, and deep significance of tefillin. With warmth and clarity, Rabbi Sassoon guided the boys and their fathers through the complex mitzvah, explaining how the tefillin are written, assembled, and worn. His words brought Torah to life in a tangible and relatable way.

What made the experience even more meaningful was the active participation of the boys, who asked insightful questions and eagerly engaged in halachic discussion. It was a powerful display of the Torah curiosity and seriousness that defines the JIQ spirit.

Ruach, Music, and Lasting Memories

As the learning concluded, it was time to transition from reflection to celebration. Shlomo Mash, accompanied by DJ Yair, lit up the room with a spirited musical performance that had the entire crowd on their feet. Fathers, sons, and Rebbeim joined in together, singing and dancing in a circle of simcha and unity.

To help preserve the beautiful memories of the evening, a photo station was set up, where families and friends captured the ruach of the night in joyful snapshots. Smiles, laughter, and the sound of music filled the school halls—an unforgettable atmosphere of achdut (togetherness).

The Father–Son Dinner was more than just an event—it was a celebration of values, family, and Torah. From the tefillah and Torah learning to the dancing and bonding, every part of the night reflected the vibrant heart of the JIQ community.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, and Maaser money can be used.
